Apple Event 7th September: important updates

Apple had a special event yesterday to unveil the highly awaited iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the new Apple Watch series. Yes there were glitches like Amazon revealing the iPhone 7 before it was announced and Apple’s twitter handle releasing images details an hour in advance, but all in all - some announcements got us really excited!

Here’s a roundup of all the latest announcements from Apple's 7 September event-

Apple Music: The event kick off was kind of musical with Cook promoting Apple’s new show: The Carpool Karaoke.

The first few minutes were owned by Apple music which has been very popular with more than 17 million subscribers. As announced in the WWDC 2016, with the release of iOS 10, users can now enjoy the revamped Apple Music with a completely new look and feel. Apple Music now makes use of carousels in many places to navigate shows, stations, and playlists, resulting in app pages that are shorter and more interactive. In another update, there is a personalized ‘For You’ section that prominently promotes a new feature called My New Music Mix. It’s the Apple Music equivalent of Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist, updated every Friday with “new music from artists we think you’ll like,” as Apple describes it.

Super Mario is on the iPhone: Shigeru Miyamoto, father of Mario announced Super Mario Run – an endless runner that fully supports one-handed play. Super Mario Run will be available at a “fixed price” and it’ll release this holiday season. Miyamoto said the decision to offer a fixed price was so that you could enjoy the game without worrying about in-app purchases.

Apple’s Education initiatives: Cook announced Apple’s new initiative under which Apple will deliver 50,000 iPads to students and 4,500 Macs to teachers to make a way for advanced learning. Apple also announced a new ConnectED program called Everyone Can Code. The program is designed to help students around the country learn how to program. Apple;s Everyone Can Code' Program will begin by teaching kids how to code in Swift, Apple's own programming language.

iWork:  The iWork apps i.e Pages, Notes, and Keynote, now offer real-time collaboration between colleagues, think Google Docs. Prescott presented a demo for the new feature where he was able to work with off-stage colleagues (represented on screen by colored “bubbles”) to update a presentation. Each team member can add graphics, images, text at the same time and instantly. iWork operates across all Apple iOS and Mac devices. Definitely a catch up with Google Docs and Microsoft here.

Apple Watch: Apple has announced the new sleek and stylish Apple Watch Series 2. The new watch comes with a powerful processor, a 2 times better display than ancestors and is water safe.

Built-in GPS and new and better health and fitness apps make the new series stand out. Apple partnered with Nike to announce ‘Apple Watch Nike+,’ a special edition built just for runners.

The biggest news was the advent of Pokemon Go on Apple Watch. Pokemon lovers, be ready with your watches now!

iOS 10: The new iOS has been in beta since past few months and has already been very popular. iOS 10 arriving on September 13, comes packed with several new features for iMessages, an all-new design for Maps, Photos, and Apple Music, new notifications, an expanded role for 3D Touch, Auto Unlock, Raise and wake and a more powerful Siri. The new OS is all about continuity across devices. Apple has come up with a feature called Universal Clipboard, which allows users to copy and paste across multiple Apple devices.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Apple saved the best announcements for the last. The new iPhones come with a dramatic revamp to give its users the best iPhone experience. A few features that make the gadget standout are:

Awesome camera updates: Apple just took the wraps off its iPhone 7 Plus with two cameras. The dual camera setup on the back combines two sensors to work as 2x optical zoom. The new cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus are one "wide" angle 28mm and a "telephoto" 56mm unit. Both have 12MP sensors and the camera can combine the two perspectives to achieve a shallow depth of field effect. The facetime camera also becomes powerful with 7MP, a better color capture and auto-image stabilization.

More Power: The 7 series gains power with A10 Fusion Chip, the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. The new phones are 2 times faster than iPhone 6 and have the longest battery life ever in an iPhone.

Better Audio: The For the first time, iPhone comes with stereo speakers, delivering two times the audio output of iPhone 6s and increased dynamic range. So whether you’re listening to music, watching videos, or making speakerphone calls, iPhone 7 is intense.

EarPods: With a Lightning connector: iPhone 7 comes with EarPods that have a Lightning connector. But if you still want to listen through your old headphones, you can plug them in using a 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter, also included.

The new iPhones come in two different shades of black, just black and jet black. Other colour options remain the same as previous models- Rose gold, gold and silver. Silver Grey moves out of the list. The base model starts at the same price as the 6s/6s Plus — $649 (which it will replace) for the 7 and $769 for the 7 Plus. Pre-orders start Friday, September 9.

AirPods: Apple ditches the headphone jacks with these stylish wireless AirPods coming into scene. AirPods are not just another wireless headphones. These are smart. They can sense when they’re in your ears and pause when you take them out.
